hey, I'm Lara...
I’m an architecture graduate who’s curious about how design and technology can meet in unexpected ways. I’ve worked on restoration projects, built prototypes with my own hands, tested out 3D printing for green ideas, and even explored how AI can shape the design process. For me, it’s less about big buzzwords and more about experimenting, learning, and finding smart, playful solutions that actually work
Here’s where I’ve been learning and shaping my path
Eastern Mediterranean University – Bachelor of Architecture
Faculty of Architecture | Famagusta, Northern Cyprus | 2021 – 2025
Honours
American University of Sharjah – Foundation in Architecture
Sharjah, United Arab Emirates | 2019 – 2020
Al Mawakeb School – High School Diploma
Dubai, United Arab Emirates | 2019
High Distinction
Along the way, I got curious and explored through research ...
Earthquake Behavior of Building Structures – Technical Collaboration
Student Researcher | Faculty of Architecture, Eastern Mediterranean University | July 2023
- Assisted in research on earthquake behavior and structural resilience.
- Conducted technical analysis and data collection.
- Built prototype models for structural simulations.
- Collaborated with faculty on presentations and reports.
Architectural Vernacular Study – Karmi/Karaman Village, Kyrenia
Student Researcher | Faculty of Architecture, Eastern Mediterranean University | June 2024
- Conducted an in-depth analysis of 20+ traditional structures to explore climate-responsive design, local material use, spatial organization, and historical influences.
- Identified key vernacular features such as limestone masonry, internal courtyards, and passive cooling strategies. Produced 10+ visual diagrams and site documentation to support research findings.
- Contributed original insights on sustainable restoration and the preservation of cultural identity through respectful architectural design.
GreenCampus Sustainability Initiative – Project Proposal
Student Researcher | Faculty of Architecture, Eastern Mediterranean University | November
18-30, 2023
- Proposed the GreenCampus: A Sustainable Transformation for Responsible Consumption and Production initiative, focused on implementing SDG 12 strategies within architectural education and broader campus life.
- Designed a phased plan with weekly milestones targeting overconsumption, estimating a potential 30–40% reduction in single-use studio materials and 20% decrease in waste output through student-led reuse and swap programs.
- Outlined measurable impact goals, including campus-wide awareness campaigns projected to engage over 500 students across multiple faculties.
- Developed success metrics, stakeholder engagement strategies, and a model for interfaculty collaboration to embed sustainability across disciplines.
I’ve also worked on projects that breathe new life into old spaces...
Guvercinlik Residence – Restitution & Restoration Proposal
Team Project | Faculty of Architecture, Eastern Mediterranean University | Grade: 98% |March – May 2024
Collaborated on a detailed restitution and restoration proposal for a 1960s mudbrick residence in Cyprus, integrating historical, architectural, and material analysis.
- Key Contributions : Performed on-site measurements and created survey drawings using analog tools.
- Drafted architectural plans and elevations based on physical site analysis.
- Conducted historical and material condition assessments to guide restitution decisions.
- Proposed removal of incompatible additions and use of traditional materials in restoration.
- Applied restoration techniques including grouting, reconstruction, and material replacement.
Guvercinlik Residence – Adaptive Reuse Proposal
Individual Project | Faculty of Architecture, Eastern Mediterranean University | June 2024
Independently reimagined the residence as a community art hub. Proposed new functional zones, low-impact design upgrades, and sustainable reuse of local resources to support
village culture and economy.
Some of my best lessons came from hands-on workshops and real experiences...
Symbiotic Opportunities in 3D Printing – Design Futures Workshop
Led by Etcetera (Ariane Stracke-Henderson & Robert Henderson) | Eastern Mediterranean University, 6–11 May 2024
- Collaborated in a team of four to conceptualize a bio-integrated floating structure and reef-based farming system aimed at marine ecosystem restoration and temperature regulation.
- Employed AI tools for rapid ideation and visualization during the early design phases.
- Proposed a translucent ocean-surface structure connected to a network of 3D printed farming reefs engineered to foster coral growth and marine biodiversity.
- Designed with a focus on climate resilience, using shading and reef systems to reduce surface water temperature and restore underwater habitats.
- Presented the solution to peers and jurors in a final pitch session, incorporating material selection, environmental impact, and systems thinking.
Experiential Learning: Public Interest Design – Design & Build Workshop
Organized by ISBE Research Center & EMU Faculty of Architecture with Fulbright Specialist Prof. Dr. Charlie Hailey | 4–14 December 2023
- Collaborated with a team of 10 architecture students under Dr. Hailey to design and construct an interactive wood structure for a local middle school.
- Developed concept and form based on solar orientation, user interaction, and spatial experience through light and shade.
- Led hands-on tasks including wood cutting, component preparation, and on-site assembly of planter-integrated seating modules.
- Engaged in public interest design principles by translating user needs into a functional and educational spatial installation.
I’ve stepped into the professional world too, and here’s what I’ve been part of...
