Symbiotic Opportunities in 3D Printing – Design Futures Workshop

Led by Etcetera (Ariane Stracke-Henderson & Robert Henderson) | Eastern Mediterranean University |

During this intensive workshop, I worked within a small team to conceptualize a floating bio-integrated structure paired with a reef-based farming system designed to restore marine ecosystems and regulate water temperatures. We used AI tools to accelerate idea generation and visualization in the early design phases. Our proposal featured a translucent surface structure connected to 3D-printed reefs engineered to encourage coral growth and support marine biodiversity. The design emphasized climate resilience by creating shaded zones that reduce ocean surface temperatures while improving habitat quality. The project concluded with a final pitch session to peers and jurors, where we presented our material strategies, environmental considerations, and systems thinking approach.
